About the event

With the knowledge of the higher incidence of trauma and violence experienced by all people and communities on the margins of power, and with the continued escalation of gun violence and overt expressions of white supremacy in our nation and world, the interface between healing, and peace and justice are increasingly clear. Join clinical psychologist Dr. Brinell Anderson with Rev. Dr. Sally Howard for training on trauma-informed community-based care. Please join us for a weekend-long training session which will occur January 17-19, 2020. Relevant to the 400 year anniversary of the first documented enslaved Africans in the United States, the second training, over MLK weekend will involve an immersion into the history of the Maafa – “the great disaster and destruction beyond human convention and comprehension” that includes the transatlantic enslavement of people of African descent in the Americas. This immersion, and an in-depth training will include:

• An understanding of the STAR (Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience) model

• Awareness of The Association of Black Psychologists and Community Healing Network’s

Community Care and Self Care Toolkit

• Descriptions of culturally-congruent strategies for restoring resilience

• An opportunity to equip our community to support and participate in the All Saints

Trauma-Informed Community Based Care Project of Northwest Pasadena Join us in this exciting journey of radical liberation and courageous justice that will empower us to be even greater agents of healing in our world. Fee range will be from $30-125, depending on ability to pay. Please pay according your ability. Reparations awards and full scholarships available.
